HIPS - High-impact Polystyrene - High-impact polystyrene, which is a copolymer of styrene with polybutadiene or other synthetic rubbers and a mixture of styrene copolymers. Increasing the content of elastomers improves impact and wear resistance. HIPS is a hard and rigid material that is resistant to impact and temperature extremes. HIPS dissolves in D-limonene, a natural solvent extracted from citrus fruits, and is often used to create support in 3D models.
In terms of its characteristics, HIPS is very similar to ABS plastic, the main advantage of the former is its excellent electrical insulating properties, therefore, if you want to use voltages above 1kV in your project, then HIPS is undoubtedly what you need.
HIPS plastic is used both in manufacturing, in prototyping and modeling, and as a support for printing complex models. HIPS is excellent for machining, sanding, priming and painting. Due to the relatively low cost and breadth of application, plastic is very popular.
